Exact fraction calculations

Fractions and mixed numbers are calculated using integer arithmetic. Finite decimals are converted to exact fractions before the calculation. Scientific notation and repeating-decimal notation are not accepted; enter a fraction such as 1/3 for an exact repeating value.
A leading minus sign applies to the entire mixed number: -1 1/2 means -(1 + 1/2), or -3/2. In a mixed number, the fractional numerator must be non-negative and smaller than its positive denominator. A denominator of zero and division by a zero value produce an error.

1/2 + 1/3 = 5/6. The exact result is 5/6; its rounded decimal display is 0.833333333333. All calculations take place in this browser.
